First Amendment and Communications Education Thanks You!
The F1RST THINGS F1RST Project
We are so lucky. In these unusual and challenging times, we are surviving and thriving, thanks to the volunteers and donors who are standing with us and our mission—to promote and defend the First Amendment and to foster interest, integrity, and excellence in journalism and other forms of communication.
Thank you to our hard-working students, our expert instructors, our clever Trustees, members, and founders. And, making and re-making a school during a pandemic is possible when you have a team of volunteers like those who took our annual fundraising and celebration event from a theater to a magazine. Thank you to our terrific F1RST THINGS F1RST Project Committee of Sylvio Dupuis, Brendan McQuaid, Joseph W. McQuaid, Katie McQuaid Cote, and Jim Merrill. Intrepid staff members Laura Simoes and Linda Wojtkiewicz were aided by the Union Leader’s talented designer Emma Sheehan in getting the magazine from idea to paper. Thank you also to our essayists—distinguished, all.
Annual First Amendment Award
Our annual First Amendment Award program is made possible by our extraordinary judges Mary Lukas DeWinkleleer, Rod Doherty, The Honorable Richard Galway, and Gregory V. Sullivan, Esq.
In past years, the award was made at the annual Nackey S. Loeb First Amendment Awards Event. Due to the pandemic, things look a bit different this year. Instead, a new publication, F1RST THINGS F1RST, a collection of essays on the First Amendment in these times, will be published on October 18. A video tribute to Dr. Salcetti and the First Amendment will premiere on November 1 at loebschool.org.
We are grateful to our donors who took a chance on a whole new way of celebrating—we say thank you, and we hope you, the reader, will find their logos and names on our website and in the F1RST THINGS F1RST magazine and will reward their generosity with your own support.
The magazine and video presentation are sponsored by Eversource, CCA Global, The Brodsky Prize, AT&T, Bank of America, Fidelity Investments, St. Mary’s Bank, The McQuaid Family, AARP NH, Amoskeag Beverages, Bellwether Community Credit Union, Bernstein Shur, Borislow Insurance, Business, and Industry Association, Catholic Medical Center, Cross Insurance, Elliot Health System, Joyce, and Daniel Levesque, Louis Karno & Company Communications, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Mayflower Advisors, Means of Production, LLC, Merchants Fleet, NH Beverage Association, Northeast Delta Dental, Southern New Hampshire University, Wipfli, Wieczorek Insurance, Douglas, Leonard & Garvey, P.C., NH Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, Jim and Kristy Merrill, Cathleen Schmidt, Jayme and Laura Simoes, and David and Sarah Tirrell-Wysocki. In-kind support for production and distribution was made by the New Hampshire Union Leader and Sunday News.
And, of course, none of this is possible without the gift and vision of Nackey Scripps Loeb.
We aren’t having the year we thought we would, or even hoped we could. But we are so very lucky. Thank you!
